In partnership with First Tee – Pittsburgh, using the game of golf as a platform to teach life skills, mentorship, and real-world career readiness.
Purpose
The Jerome Bettis Bus Stops Here Foundation is committed to helping young people build the confidence, character, and skills needed to succeed in school, the workplace, and life. In partnership with First Tee – Pittsburgh, Ready Fore Work was created to provide youth with mentorship, personal development opportunities, and exposure to experiences that encourage growth both on and off the golf course. Inspired by Jerome Bettis' belief in the power of mentorship and opportunity, the program helps participants develop important life skills while building a foundation for future success. Through positive relationships, hands-on learning, and meaningful experiences, Ready Fore Work empowers young people to discover their potential and prepare for the opportunities ahead.
How Does It Work?
Ready Fore Work uses the game of golf as a platform for teaching valuable life skills, including confidence, responsibility, teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. Throughout the school year, participants receive instruction from First Tee – Pittsburgh coaches and mentors in a supportive environment that encourages personal growth and character development. Students learn lessons that extend beyond the course, helping them navigate challenges, set goals, and develop the skills necessary to succeed in all areas of life. In addition to golf instruction and mentorship, high school participants have the opportunity to explore workforce development experiences, including employment opportunities as caddies during the summer at The Bob O'Connor Golf Course in Schenley Park. These experiences help students gain professional skills, workplace exposure, and valuable real-world experience. By combining mentorship, life skills development, and career readiness opportunities, Ready Fore Work helps prepare the next generation of leaders to confidently pursue their goals and make a positive impact in their communities.
